I have a question, actually two. First of all, have the odds always stayed the same? I'm asking because a few months ago, don't remember exactly when, there were a number of Curio shop glitches, and for quite a while after that I seemed to be finding a lot less gems. Before that I was finding them probably 3/4 times like you said. But after that it was more like 1/4 times for weeks. It's only been in the last few weeks that I've been finding more, though I'm not sure if it's back to 3/4. I'm wondering if anyone else had this experience, or is this just part of the randomness of the game, and I happened to get the short end of the stick for a long time.
The other question relates to your comment that there isn't actually anything under the rocks, and that the actual gem you get is randomly determined after you click on it. There have been a couple of times where I could see a piece of gem sticking out from behind a rock before I clicked on it, and the gem matched up with the colour I could see ahead of time. On another thread I read about this happening to a few other people as well. How would that fit in with with your theory? | | | 06-09-2008, 10:30 AM | #102 | skyhi5 Gifted Join Date: Aug 2007 Posts: 334 | Re: Arte's Gem Hunt - EXPLAINED !! I am very impressed with your thought process! Tell me what you think of searching for gems after the rare, because it seem like if I buy the rare I end up with a gem I need! Do you think this is just random, or it helps because you have given arte a large sum of money to purchase something? | | | 06-09-2008, 11:28 PM | #103 | Gifted Join Date: Oct 2007 Posts: 866 | Re: Arte's Gem Hunt - EXPLAINED !! There have been a couple of times where I could see a piece of gem sticking out from behind a rock before I clicked on it... On the first question, there's no way to know for sure about odds changing over time. Anything is possible, but without actually tracking data carefully, we generally can't trust our own memories (notice that I don't single you out for being such a pessimist...LOL). The game could change at any time, but logic tells me that given the number of issues and problems that persist for so long in WW, they do not likely have the time or need to be tweaking things that are working.
The second question is easier. The flash script is pretty clear, based on my understanding of what I see in it. The rocks are positioned randomly to give the illusion of variation. But the "gem" is just a couple of random number generators. There is no physical correlation, and there is no display of a "found gem" until AFTER a positive result is generated. I can't explain what you noticed, other than to suggest that it was a quirk of processing - somewhere in the very complex and interesting path from the code, its graphical output on the monitor, your sensory input and resulting perception and memory of the event. Any or all of those play a role.

The odds at the time I examined the game (things can change of course) were hard-coded in the game. Neither the chance of finding a gem, nor the offer he makes for it are influenced by your relationship or by your activities on a given day. Both are based only on a random number.
It nice to think of being able to influence that, but at least for now, it does not appear to matter. Last edited by williamson_39; 06-09-2008 at 11:30 PM.. Okay, that gem showing has just happened again today. I was in the Flea Floater mine, and noticed a bit of different shade of green just to the right of a rock as I clicked on it, and sure enough, there was a green gem behind that rock. It sure seemed to me that it was under that rock before I clicked on it. This is a thread from a few months ago where a few others reported the same thing. http://www.webkinzinsider.com/forum/...html?p=6006473 | | | 06-11-2008, 12:09 PM | #106 | Gifted Join Date: Oct 2007 Posts: 866 | Re: Arte's Gem Hunt - EXPLAINED !!
