How to take Pics, Save it, & Put it on the Site)
-----
I didn't think the guide for making screenshots was complete with Mac info - so I thought I'd make a dedicated one to help
Mac users have a big advantage when it comes to screenshots - They have several, super easy ways to do it.
Mac users do not have to take a screenshot of the entire window, and then edit it in a program to only show the part of the window they want.
There are -- major ways to take a screen shot on a Mac
(Note: For Older Macs, the "Command" Key ( ⌘ ) Referred to here is the "Apple" ( ) Key on your Keyboard
Choice 1: Hold down Command ⌘ + Shift + 3
- This will take a picture of your entire screen, including the dock & menu bar at the top of your screen
Useful for:
- When you need a picture of your entire screen
- Need to edit your screenshot to "Paint" on it or user other effects (See end of guide)
Choice 2: Hold Down Command ⌘ + Shift + 4
- This will bring up a large cross. Click & drag the box around what you want to take a screenshot of. When you release your mouse button, and selected portion is captured and the picture is put on your desktop.
Useful for:
- When you only need a shot of part of your screen (Such as a Webkinz World Window)
Choice 3: Use the "Grab" Utility
- If you have Mac OS X 10.4 (Tiger), 10.5 (Leopard), or 10.6 (Snow Leopard), within your Applications --> Utilities Menu, is a Utility called "Grab".
- When you launch it, no window will be open. The Icon will appear in the dock, and all the controls for the application will be within the menu bar.
- Grab is the most sophisticated way to capture your Screenshot. You can capture a selection, a specific window (Just your browser window, for instance), your entire screen, or even set a timer before a screenshot is taken. It will also allow you to define where your screenshot is saved, so they are not all cluttered on your desktop
- On the Menu Bar, Go to: Capture --> Selection/Window/Screened/Timed. The Screenshot will be taken and open in a window. Then, go to File --> Save --> Choose where on your Mac to save the picture, and give it a name.
Useful for:
- If you want more options when taking your screenshot
Choice 4: Dedicated "Paint" Program for Mac
- "Paintbrush", a MS Paint Equivalent for Mac, also allows you to Edit Screenshots.
- Download it --> HERE
- After taking your Screenshot using one of the Method's above, Open Paintbrush and open the image from the menu bar. Edit it using the Controls (If you've used MS Paint, they are pretty much the same & Self Explanatory)
Useful for:
- When you need to make edits to your screenshots before posting them
Uploading your Screenshots:
- Very easy to do!
1) When making a post on WI, Click "Go Advanced" (If you are typing in the Quick Reply Box, otherwise Ignore this step)
2) Scroll Down, and click "Manage Attachments"
Click "Browse"
3) The Finder will Open - Select your Image where it is saved, and click Open
4) Click "Upload"
- The Images will be Uploaded, and attached to your Post.
- I recommend this way over using a site like TinyPic.com (Unless you are making a post where Pictures are needed in between text - Such as WW Houses Threads) as the picture only shows up as a thumbnail, and does not slow down loading of your post. (Plus, one less step when uploading )
I Hope this is helpful for Mac users in taking screenshots to post on WI
Feel free to PM Me if you have any further questions

Until Saturday, we had nothing but Macs, and I have always loved how easy it is to take a screenshot. | | | 10-26-2009, 08:15 AM | #7 | Bamboo is Gifted Join Date: Jun 2007 Posts: 4,867 | Re: Screenshots on a Mac - The Easy Way Great thread. I have a Mac computer, and I knew how to take basic screenshots, but I never knew there was something on my computer called "grab" until you pointed it out... I might use that from now on.
