It is essential that you know how to properly type before attempting to do this job on higher levels, which is why I took the typing section of my Lunch Letters Guide and pasted it in here for all of you. Mrs. Bridy's Assistant is a medium job, so when you get to level three, you will get 250 KinzCash if you successfully complete it. I hope it helps. Feel free to post asking any questions, comments, concerns, etc. Also, please rate this thread so that I know how I am doing! Good Luck everybody!
Typing 101
To start, I would like to clarify the names of the fingers that will be used in the following guide. Your pinky is your outermost finger, it is also sometimes called your 5th finger. The next finger going inwards is your ring or 4th finger. Next is your middle or 3rd finger, followed by your index or second finger, and lastly your thumb, or your first finger.
Learning the "home row" is an essential beginning to learning how to type. The home row (HR) is the place where you fingers will start and end their strokes. Your left pinky finger will be on the letter a key with your next three letters on the s, d, and f keys. Both of your thumbs will ALWAYS be on the space bar. On your right hand, your index finger will be on the j key and then next three fingers will be on the k, l, and ; keys. We will come back to the g and h keys in the 4th paragraph. You may notice on keyboards that there are little ridges coming up off of the f and j keys; theses are there to help you find the HR. Before you continue, you should practice typing with just the HR keys and memorize which finger is on top of which key.
The next step is learning the "top row"(TR). The top row consists of the letters q through p. Your pinky will press the q key, your ring (4th) will press the w key, your middle finger will press the e key, and your index finger will press the r and t keys. On your right land, your index finger will presss the y and u key, your middle finger will press the i key, your ring finger will press the o key, and your pinky will press the p key. Like above, you should now practice typing with the HR and TR keys and memorize their positions and which finger will press each key.
The next part you will be learning the the "bottom row"(BR) The BR consists of the keys z through /. You will press the z key with your left pinky, the x key with your left ring finger, the c key with your left middle finger, and the v key with your left index finger. I will discuss the b key in the next paragraph. The n key will be pressed by your right index finger, the m key will be pressed with the middle finger, the , key will be pressed with your middle finger also, the . key will be pressed by your right ring finger, and the / key will be pressed by the right pinky. Like the previous two parts, practice and memorize.
As you should have noticed, I skipped the g, h, and b key above. The g and h keys are part of the middle row, but are technically not part of the home row. The g key will be pressed by your left index finger and the h key will be pressed by you right index finger. As the b key is in right in the middle, you can choose which index finger presses it. Personally, I like using my right index finger but you can choose to use your left. Practice and Memorize.
For all of you that only care about Mrs. Birdy's Assistant, you now know everything you need to know to pass all of the levels, but if you are interested in learning the other keys then keep reading.
In this part, I will teach you about the number key. For people with smaller hands, I would suggest that you skip this paragraph because the Number Row (NR) will be hard for you to reach. The 1 key will be pressed by the pinky, 2 by your ring finger, 3 and 4 with your middle finger, 5 with your left index finger. Like the b key, the 6 key can be pressed by either index finger. I preffer using my right finger though. The 7 key will be pressed with you index finger, 8 and 9 with your middle finger, 0 with your ring finger, and - with your pinky.
The next part is the function keys as I like to call them. On apple computers, I believe the apple key replaces shift. These are keys like shift, enter, etc. In this part, I will start in the bottom left side of the keyboard and make my way around clockwise. Control (Ctrl) is pressed by your pinky, along with shift, caps lock, tab, and tilda. The = key, backspace, enter, ', and the other shift key will be pressed by your right pinkey. You may have noticed I skipped some other keys, these are very rarely used but can be pressed by your pinky. The space bar is always pressed by either of your thumbs. I prefer my left one. Now you may be wondering what some of these keys do so I will go over them. Control is sometimes held down then you press a key (ex. p, c, v, etc) and these keys have a special function (print, copy, paste, respectivley). Shift is usd to make capitol letters and to do the symbols above the numbers (ex. !, @, #, etc.). Caps lock is pressed to make all letters you press capitols until you press it again. Tab is used to tab over. What this means is that it will move you text over to the right. Backspace is used to delete the symbol that is prior to the flashing vertical bar that shows where you are. Enter is used to go down to the next line. Space bar makes spaces between words otherwiseeverythingwouldlooklikethis. that is all I can think of right now, if you have any questions on anything I may have missed just post a message and I will reply ASAP. __________________ Ich bin ein Berliner (I am a jelly doughnut.) - JFK Cross Country ~~~ Track and Field | | | 08-03-2009, 05:38 PM | #2 | Pe@c3 ☮ut!
