Special Ed was the closest thing they had for any kind of program for me.The teachers kept putting it back on me when I told or when they happened upon the kids picking on me, they would say it must be something I did that made the kids pick on me.
Now I'm a grown adult female, 5'9 200lbs.... No one picks on me now! Bwahahaha
I have Cerebral Palsey, Schizoaffective Disorder, Sciatica, Scoliosis, Ulcerative Colitis, Dhysrythmia Left Lobe, and reflux esophagitis. But believe it or not I'm pretty tough now thanks to my past.
I do find the timed games difficult sometimes because my motor coordination just isn't there some days or the dhysrythmia acts up. But I am hopelessly addicted to WW nonetheless.
The only thing really noticeable about my disabities is my gait is a little off, I sometimes posture or fidget with my left hand and my demeanor is that of a perpetual child.
Being a little kid in a big body is fun sometimes, not only that kids think I'm cool now! | | | 05-13-2009, 09:12 PM | #523 | Autism Awareness!! Being a little kid in a big body is fun sometimes, not only that kids think I'm cool now! Wow, thanks for such a refreshing post!! It is wonderful to hear your positive viewpoint. So many of us (myself for sure) fear the future for our children. I am glad to hear that you are doing so well and have suffered only positive effects from your trying childhood.
Welcome to our thread. We would love it if you dropped by often. I am off to google some of the terms you have listed because I obviously still have a lot to learn LOL. Originally Posted by Blackie_Lab2003 I have good news!

I checked the tush tag (because I write names on them) and saw no names on it, so I knew it was his Zackson. We were both very excited, because Zackson was lost for months. The last time we saw him was when we gathered up our Kinz and hid them because we had a scare that we'd lose some Webkinz. That is great new Blackie_Lab. I am glad to hear that you found your missing pet. Welcome to our thread...
Hi everyone--
Got off just in time last night as the storms came rolling through with a vengenence ... No power outage for us thankfully...I don't know when I'll be back on, we'll be leaving for the dentists office with DS for fillings and possible extractions, don't know for sure...I'm not looking forward to this . At least DH will there too, my other rock.
My prayer is that this will go without difficulty and DS will be calm throughout the whole appointment. He's been to the dentist one other time and that was a fiasco--no work could be done. Now we've found a place that specializes in special needs kids... Last edited by auntiee2; 05-14-2009 at 04:46 PM.. | | | 05-14-2009, 06:18 PM | #527 | Autism Awareness!! Now we've found a place that specializes in special needs kids... Awwww the dentist. That is always such a fun experience!! Everybody loves the dentist. My DS does not do too bad. But he has never let them clean his teeth. Everytime I go there I get the lecture on flossing his teeth. They are always saying I should be doing it twice a day. I do not even see him in the morning and trust me, trying to floss his teeth is NOT FUN!! They seem to think it is easy. Guess waht, it is not!! The dentist has been teling me lately that he is going to need braces. I think he has been using his laughing gas. My DS has trouble with tags on his clothes. He will not put stickers on his clothes or wear tatoos, face painting is out of the question. How do they thing he going to feel about a mouth full of metal?
I hope your visit was not too stressfull. Okay I am all brushed up on all those medical terms. So what things do you enjoy about Webkinz? Right now my son is into the collecting. He has some pretty big dreams. We also love to play Pizza Parlour together and my son is becoming a pro at Cash Cow! No trophy yet but it is something he is striving for. Good Grief, I still get lectures on adequately flossing my teeth! Sometimes I wonder if hygienist's really have a life....They actually thought it was appropriate to tackle my son....get him in a headlock, to brush and floss!!!!! - what I found is that most of the people I went to DID NOT HAVE CHILDREN....and thought that you could just tell them what they needed to do .
Forgot to add...for a special needs child....do we add the the time it takes to adjust to all the sensory overload - the halogen lights, sounds, etc...also someone TOUCHING YOU, and complaining the whole time to your Mom (ignoring you) - WHILE TOUCHING YOU? and of course it hurts...because you are resisting the whole thing. I like Eager Beaver, Goober's Lab, Cash Cow 2 and Home Before Dark. I also like some of the memory games, they are very challenging for me. I fail at fence painting in the employment office thing though.
I also do the dailies, Wheel of Wow etc. Except for Wacky Bingoz because I know that one has been broken for awhile and they haven't bothered fixing it. Lots of people have 'stuck' cards that aren't resetting so all the have to do when they log in is hit shout Bingoz.
My favourite thing is collecting themes, each bedroom has a different theme. I also now have over 60 Webkinz, those are fun to collect to. I have a friend who's 12 that likes to come shopping with me and another friend whos 10 that has Autism. The 10 year olds mom is going out with my brother. I am also friends with the 12 year olds mom and dad, I make their website, flyers etc. for thier store. Both of them are girls so it's really fun shopping for Webkinz stuff. I have another friend whos 24 that likes shopping for Webkinz but she has to buy them in even numbers because she has OCD and I forget what else, it makes her really uncomfortable and nervous to have odd numbers of anything. | | | 05-14-2009, 11:13 PM | #530 | A Meditating Gift Guru Join Date: Feb 2009 Posts: 2,590 | Re: Children with Special Needs and Webkinz Originally Posted by Electrabuzz1 I told you - padded room!!
I can't go shopping Saturday. It is my younger son's birthday!! We are having his friend's party at a play centre in the afternoon. He is really excited. My contact sold me a bunch of the Extravaganza pets to use in loot bags. My DS has 10 friend coming and it lasts for 3 hours. I was surprised with it being a long weekend here we only had 1 no. We have a family party here on Monday! I have to clean the house!
We do a ride for Autism every September. It is a lot of fun and my DS has had the third highest pledge amout three years in a row. Last year we raised $3000. I am not feeling optimistic about this year though with the economy the way it is.
The boys love the trophy!! YEA- PARTY!!!! mine's is coming up at the end of the month She's looking forward to it, but I am trying my best to get the house cleaned up. We had a kerosene heater going for much of the winter and my house has never been so filthy. YIKES! Too cool getting the Extravaganza pets- that is a huge score I hope it is LOADS and LOADS of fun and that the party at the house goes extremely well!!!
Things are going OK here - the girls are healing, although I think my older will have a hard time adjusting back to whole days next week (when she will hopefully finally get cleared from her head trauma). These half-days seem to suit her very well and I wish I could keep her on them!!! She actually got up, got dressed, ate, hair brushed, everything and was ready to leave on time!!! That NEVER happens!!! The next few weeks are going to be long ones I can tell.... (although I hope not- she has a countdown going!)
My younger one is healing up little by little. The bruises are still very deep and the more they surface the more it hurts. She will have to go back on Monday and I think she misses her friends enough that hopefully the rest of the year won't be so bad. SHe is just so bored!!!
We will plan out trip- this month just bad altogether with getting things ready for the party- she has to have it here. I was really hoping to get her to have it somewhere else so i wouldn't have all of this to do right now, but nope. Originally Posted by Blackie_Lab2003 I have good news!

My girls get horribly upset when they can not find their friends. I honestly couldn't tell you which is worse- the one with Autism or the neuro-typical. both have their routines and different reasons for them, but I know how wonderful it must have been for him- and how happy you must be for him! Being a little kid in a big body is fun sometimes, not only that kids think I'm cool now! I know I am not the same age it says on my birth certificate!!! I love pointing out to my girls that I play with toys still and so does my husband So when other kids say that something is 'for little kids' I just laugh and laugh. Now they do too!!!

I have to go and I can tell you I HATE going. I have a huge phobia of needles near my face and the taste of metal (I have a very good reason to be though) so I don't want to go because I know I have to have some I hope it has gone well.
With my older we have gone with happy gas when she has had a cavity. It doesn't make her completely out of it, but it makes her not care as much!
