Sorry for dropping off the Earth again, things got way hectic here.

Younger daughter went up a grade this week- got bumped up- finally! She was literally in 2 grades for most of the year and doing all the work for both- that is way too much on a young child and she was miserable. It is her Birthday this Sunday! I will be making the treats for her current class and the one she left on Monday- both are having a little class 'party' for her, how cool is that!

Older daughter had most of the appointments. Psychiatrist is in agreement with the pediatrician that her school is a bad environment for her. Now we just have to get it all in black and white to be able to (FINALLY) get her out of there.

Hope everyone had a great holiday today and got to have some green beverage and get a little luck o' the Irish!

Sounds like things are finally starting to work out Meows!! These have really been tough times for you and the girls. I bet you are happy to see the last of this winter. Between being sick, the weather and the school it sure has been a long one.

Let's kick that winter in the behind and get it out of here!!

Hello!
My best friend was diagnosed with Lukemia when she was a toddler I believe. She was told she would not live very long, but her brother saved her life by donating something(I can't remember everything exactly because we do not talk about it). The doctors were wrong and she has lived past what they thought (can not say age). Although Lukemia will affect her the rest of her life, she is living freely and not letting anything stop her! I look past her special needs and it is as if she is just a normal person. I treat her how I treat all my other friends. I do not even notice anything wrong with her when I am with her. If I ever hear anyone making fun of her or anyone with a special need it makes me so sad and heartbroken. I know we will be Best Friends Forever! She is a very special person to me. I have known her for a long time. I am basically considered family to her family. She also enjoys playing on Webkinz!
Thank you for reading!

You are a wonderful friend and person!! I am happy to hear that your friend is doing well and that she has defied the odds. I lost a young neighbour to Leukemia when I was about 13 and he was about the same age. It was a terrible time for our whole neighbourhood. Fortunately medicine has come a long way!!

Keep being a wonderful and caring person!!

I don't know if I'm going to have much internet access for the next week. I don't have the emtionally or mental where-with-all to explain everything now, but if anyone how is inclined to do so, could pray for me, for DH, and for my kitties and dogs, especially the cats and dogs, I would appreciate it.

Talking Re: Children with Special Needs and Webkinz

Hi,

I'm pretty new to this site and just found the Special Needs thread today...great idea to start it! I am a single mom with an elem. schooler with Autism. This is his first year in a mainstream class and I just finished with his annual IEP. I've read that some of you are having trouble even holding an IEP or getting copies of it. I have used an education consultant for every IEP and she has been AMAZING. I understand the financial hardship, trust me, but it is so worth it. She knows the laws inside and out and can be assertive when I feel like I have pushed and stepped on enough toes. It's very helpful. I feel like I have someone in my corner instead of lil me going up against "the man". LOL.

My son LOVES all his Webkinz and usually sleeps with one every night and brings one to school to share each week. He has NO concept of saving his KC or taking care of his garden, but loves to give his pets baths and take them to the arcade. I do all the dailys for him, but he makes sure they all get food, water, and love.

I'm looking forward to learning more about you all and your families. I'm so happy to have found this area for us to share. Enjoy your weekend!

Hello KinzDiva!!

Welcome to our thread!! It is wonderful to have you join us and thank you for sharing your story. I agree with you about getting an advocate or education consultant to represent you with regards to your IEP. In our area they are very difficult to find as I am sure they are in other areas. There are consultants in our area and they offer seminars but to actually hire them is very difficult. They are so busy that they can pick and choose their clients. Fortunately for us we have been lucky and have not had an issue with our IEP. I do like to attend the seminars as often as possible though. The tips and the information is invaluable.

To all others - it is definitely beneficial to find an IEP consultant in your area.

KinzDiva, your son sounds like many of our children. They love to blow through that cash LOL! I logged on yesterday after my son had spent some time on WW and evidently he is planning a very large BBQ and inviting everybody he knows. He had 28 BBQ's, as well as countless Patio Chairs and Patio Tables in his dock!! I hope I get an invite!!

My son sleeps with ALL his Webbies. There is barely room for him in his bed. He no longer takes one to school as his teacher felt it was not age appropriate and my DS did not resist leaving the Webbie's at home. I think his favourite thing to do is still to re-arrange his rooms. Over and over. It is much the same as in real life.
