I just wanna say, Happy Halloween! How did trick-or-treating go? How much candy did you have to remove because it was either opened or your kids couldn't have it? Mom's always getting rid of the sticky stuff like Skittles and Laffy Taffy. It sticks to their teeth like glue and their dental work isn't fun...
I went out with some friends, and we got rained on! Oh no! At least we got a lot of candy! One of my brothers happily went out as a ghost, but whatever he was using to carry his candy ripped! My mom tells him it's gonna be time for the pillowcase next year! My other brother wanted nothing to do trick-or-treating. I guess last year was his last year because the decorations were too scary for him. Anyone else having similar problems?
Hopefully he doesn't get mad at the fact that he doesn't have any candy...
Just hope my dad doesn't go NEAR my candy! Last year he attempted to take my ENTIRE bag just for himself! > : ( He's not supposed to have candy, but if he even touches mine, I will be MAD because I had to run through rain to get that candy! | | | 11-01-2009, 05:02 PM | #1114 | Diabetes Awareness Webkinz :) Join Date: May 2008 Posts: 406 | Re: Children with Special Needs and Webkinz Originally Posted by GlynnisI I just wanted to share that yesterday (Halloween) was our first Buddy Walk. Chris Burke of "LIfe Goes On" fame and his band (great guys) led the walk and played for the event. They were really fun. There were games and swings and slides and a bouncy slide and Taylor Swift's Monster Truck (pink!) and a raffle. We won three prizes and one was a Webkinz Lava Dragon! Older boy (Webkinz fanatic) was delighted with that especially. I was pretty happy with the other prizes (gift card to grocery and for a massage!).
After all that excitement little guy fell asleep in the car on the way home. Between the walk and later Trick or Treat it was a very full day.
It was really something to see all the happy smiles! You know Im am currently wearing my Buddy walk T-Shirt from our Buddy walk Last weekend. It maybe be part of the cause with my ankles so sore but they were sore before the mile walk. My friend's family has adopted me into their family. One of the nephews has down syndrome. I have been very impressed by this toddler. He rode on the walk because he doesn't have the muscles to walk farther than 10 steps. But next year he is going to try and walk the route. I Love this little boy and the 1st time i saw him stand up by himself and walk a few steps I cried. Im a proud Adopted aunt. Congrats on the raffle wins. I wanted to win the scrap bookers dream basket but at last my name wasn't drawn. But the $$ for the tickets went to a good cause.
update on my great nephew. His Monkey Costume was a hit at the bank and the neighbors. One of our tellers at the bank had to get a picture of him looking so adorable. He did go trick or treating across the street with neighbors that know our family and next door...I took him. I will say His mother made the right Choice...she didnt take him door to door because it was too cold for the little guy. Anyone got an idea for a gift for a one year old? I Have no idea what to get this Young man. Webkinz is out of the question..his mom thinks they are stupid. Also webkinz junior is a few years away. I cant believe that Nov 4th is here again and this kid is turning 1. Yikes im getting old...when i remember changing his mommy's diaper. LOL Good thing i look 10 years younger than my age huh?
have a wonderful day,

I know I haven't been on much the past week and I am very sorry. We had school parties, costumes to work on, school meetings, then add in the computer issues we had from the wonderful ghost hunt and hubby doing the Ghost Adventures live show and was gone for a few days and it was a busy, busy week. I am looking forward to next week! Hopefully it will be a little more relaxing here (YA RIGHT! LOL)
But we were not able to finish getting our ghosts, although the girls high-jacked my account today since we were able to get the most on it, they were trying to finish it. We are 3 short and it ends at midnight, so no go. Oh well At least they were finally able to get a few of them! I just tried to get one more, but it wasn't enough.
But I wanted to let you all know of a problem with the diamond codes that went out to people. The girls were the ones to catch the diamonds- 5 of them: 1 for each of us, 1 for their cousin, and the last for my older daughter's best friend. When we tried putting in the codes, none of them worked. Little one was upset, so just in case I put the codes in wrong, I tried them out on each of our accounts. NONE of them worked on any of our accounts.
Apparently some people have had them not work on one account, but then they will work on another. We are going to be calling Ganz and find out what in the world is up with this one. It doesn't seem to be just us, it seems pretty wide-spread. So if you have any codes you have not used, try them and see if they will work. I'll let you all know what happens from our phone call.
The girls had a great time Trick or Treating. Older one tried to wear her Godzilla costume again- I made a few modifications to try to account for her growing quite a few inches since I made it a few years ago, but alas, she was only able to wear it for 3 houses. She was trying to stand tall to keep the tail off the ground, but I was not able to add enough for her to do that comfortably enough. SO we ransacked my mother's closet and threw something together! LOL Little one went as a kitty. She was going to be a Skelanimal, but changed her mind to be a black cat once she saw her costume when I had it made and only had to paint the bones on it. I might be able to post a pic up of them, because you couldn't see either of their faces!
Older daughter has otherwise not had a great weekend. She has been having quite a few meltdowns as well as just generally being overwhelmed. loads of crying, loads of distractedness, but ironically has been getting along well with her sister otherwise.
I haven't gotten to read back through the past few days, but I will be trying to get caught-up. I hope you are all well and that you all had a great weekend! He is such a kind and sweet cousin. | | | 11-02-2009, 09:51 PM | #1118 | Webkinz :) Join Date: Aug 2008 Posts: 153 | Re: Children with Special Needs and Webkinz Hello everyone!
The costumes look GREAT! I'm glad Halloween went so well for everyone! We had a quiet Halloween. My dd was recovering from Swine Flu so she dressed up but didn't go out.
Hubby is going in for lap band surgery on Wed so my dd is perseverating on it, worrying and not sure of what to think. I found the Zumbuddies and got them for her. Wow, VERY difficult for her. They are hard to keep happy, she gets frustrated easily and everything is very small. It's fast paced and you spend a lot of KC. They're cute to have but for her, NOT a good game. She only enjoys when they reach 100% for a few moments and they have that party song.
She's enjoying her Strawberry Leopard and her Ribbon Unicorn. The new Pug song has been played at least 98 times today. Anyone else's kid going wild for the Pug song?
Well, off to bed. I think. Too nervous to sleep. | | | 11-02-2009, 11:51 PM | #1119 | aseals2 Gift Guru Join Date: Jul 2007 Posts: 2,408 | Re: Children with Special Needs and Webkinz Evenin', all.
It's rather late, I'm tired, I need to walk the dog, I still have a little cough and I have to work tomorrow with kids that push me to my limits of patience. But I did want to give a few updates.
First and most important, thank you all for your kind birthday wishes. I loved all the pretty graphics and heartfelt sentiments.
We had a good Halloween. My son won the "Most Handsome Costume" (as Hercules) at his Tae Kwon Do school's party. He won a bike. It's a nice bike, but it has the handles on the wheels for doing tricks. I talked him into giving it to a charity for Christmas. He's fine with it, but my husband's not. Hubby's not one for giving anything up. It didn't cost us anything and we don't need it... (I'll probably win in the end, but I hate having the discussions.)
Today turned out to be a good news/bad news kind of day. I started small - paying bills and cleaning cages. Then I had a meeting with my son's teachers. The meeting was SUPPOSED to be about using visual cues with him. It became a session of "What can we do with a pre-****scent belligerent autistic boy since we legally can't duct tape his mouth shut?" (By the way, that was MY question to them!) I encouraged them to give him extra worksheets, handwriting practice, whatever it takes to keep him from saying he's bored and working ahead. I also encouraged his teachers to take anything he's showing an interest in and make it an incentive. I'm still not sure what to do about his mouth... (For example, "What the heck is your problem anyway?" He said that to me this morning after I put him in timeout for not looking both ways before crossing the street - and almost getting hit by a car.)
I let the neighborhood kids come over to see the kittens after school. One boy remembered that a neighbor was missing a cat. Sure enough, it was the mom cat. I'm glad the cat has an owner, but my daughter and I were really looking forward to raising the kittens.
I helped take mom cat and the kittens across the street, even letting her owner borrow the toy box that the mom cat was nesting in. I said the only thing I wanted in return was for my daughter to be able to see the kittens, because she was on the verge of tears the whole time. (I would prefer not to have a discussion about responsible pet ownership with anybody.)
My heart was very heavy. So I went to the humane society website where they currently are BEGGING for foster parents. I printed the application, packed up the kids, and headed to the shelter. We are now fostering a pair of young tortoiseshell sister cats with colds (URIs). It's a start. The rep at the shelter said we would be put on the list for kittens, as kitten season was coming up and they never have enough foster parents.
My husband's a little wary about us giving up the guest bedroom to foster cats, but I need to do something. We watch so much Animal Planet in this house, but we know we can't adopt any more animals. (We already have 1 dog, 2 cats, 2 rabbits, 2 rats and 3 fish.) My daughter and I feel such a strong need to do something, especially after finding the mom cat. Besides, hubby's got his hobby of playing the drums with his band.
All in all, I'm trying to keep from hog-tying my son, my hubby and I are having differences about being charitable and I'm still not completely over this stupid cold. Then again, if I got more than 4 hours of sleep a night, I might get better. Hopefully I'll have a chance later this week to sit down and actually read through everyone's posts. Take care! | | | 11-03-2009, 06:04 AM | #1120 | MamaDeeDee Webkinz :) Join Date: Jul 2008 Posts: 50 | Re: Children with Special Needs and Webkinz Glad everyone had a good time! We took our kids to the Mall with Grandma and Grandpa and set them up in the food court to watch the kids- grandma passed out candy and they had a blast. It was warm at the mall, and we stopped at the bookstore so the kids could pick a book. Once they had a book, they didn't want any more candy so we came home early so they could read so yaaaaaay!
A gift for a one year old- I would suggest some board books! There are a ton of them to pick from and it is NEVER too early to introduce a baby to books. They are clever and fun to share with babies too. | | | | | | Tags | all children are special!, autism is a gift, autism is normal, coolio101 waz here!!!, eclipsestrike, electrabuzz1 rocks!, gillian's sis has autism, good topic, great info!-hayley, great thread!, great thread! penny lane, hollister:]was here, kay's favorites tag, loveourkids!, n.i.c.k. j.o.n.a.s<3<3<3, pppoker face, s.m.o.p.h.i.e, special needs&webkinz, support differences, thank you buzz ♥, usernames!, webkinz4specialneeds, yo-yo-yoshi, ♥ jesus 4eva! ~hpf, ♥autism is special♥ | | Currently Active Users Viewing This Thread: 1 (0 members and 1 guests) | | | | Thread Tools | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode | Posting Rules | You may not post new threads You may not post replies You may not post attachments You may not edit your posts HTML code is Off
