Default How to: Making your story easier to read gets more readers!

Well I've noticed that some stories are hard to read because of the font, size, and color they use.
So I'm here to give you some advice to make your story easier to read!

As you can see, I'm using the font Georgia in a normal size font and in black. Which is really easy to read!

Compare it to this, this is difficult to read because the words are mashed together and the pink is really bright!

So anyway here is the list of fonts and colors that are easy on the eyes:

Fonts:

Georgia
Book Antiqua
Century Gothic
Comic Sans MS
Courier New
Garamond (Use size 2 or 3 for this font)
Lucida Sans Unicode
Microsoft Sans Serif
Palatino Linotype
Times New Roman
Trebuchet MS

~~~
These are fine but they are a bit boring and when you write a long paragraph then it gets difficult to read:
Arial
System
Tahoma
Verdana
Fonts NOT to use:
Arial Black
Arial Narrow (This font is good if its a note but not a long story)
Fixedsys
Impact
~~~
Size: 1
Size: original
Size: 2
Size:3
Size:4

If the font in too small make it bigger, if it's too big make it smaller. The font size should be around the same size as the one I am using now.
Colors

Colors are important because if it's too bright, it hurts you eyes. And even if it doesn't hurt your eyes it may hurt your reader's eyes and so they might not want to read it.

Have you ever read a book and the letters were colored? Or course not! because black is the easiest color to read.

Colors that are the easiest to read:

Black
Dark red
Brown
Orange
Pale Orange
Dark Brown/green
Brown/green
Dark Green
Medium Green
Sap green
Yellow/green
Dark green/blue
Grey/blue
Dark Blue
Medium Blue
Light blue
Dark Violet
Grey/violet
Dark purple
Purple
Dark Grey
Grey
Medium Grey

Don't use:

Red or Blue it is for Admins and Mods and is hard to read in long paragraphs
Pink
Light Pink
Light orange
Really light orange
Yellow
Lime Green
Light lime green
Light blue
Light pale blue
Light purple
White

Yes, those are nice colors but shouldn't be used for stories.

Another tip:

When you add a new chapter edit the first post and paste it there, don't just make another post. This makes it easier to get to so you don't have to hunt down the next chapter in all the comments.

Thanks so much for the tip! I try to use simple to read fonts and colors, but I have seen some stories with bright pink writing and squished together fonts... It's very annoying!

Yes, it's fine
I would suggest original or 2 or 3 for stories

agree!

I agree! If you take the time to write something you should make it look professional.

I agree too because what is somebody was writing a story and they put: "I'll talk 2 u l8tr!" I mean it would be okay if in the sotry the character was online talking, to a friend, but really! Thats really annoying!
