WW Math Problems

I have been thinking...:o...and I just really don't like that Ganz uses math problems in order to win prizes. In my opinion, it sort of discriminates against younger kids, or people with learning disabilities, or just people who stink at math. I think they should use questions about WW itself. Like; what is the name of the blue hippo who answers questions? (for example) The site is supposed to be for younger kids too, right? What do you all think?
I don't want to bash Ganz, I love the site, and Webkinz World is SO much fun. I just don't like this certain aspect.

Yes. Desty. I stink at math and can't divide. That is a very good point. GANZ did say that the age range for webkinz is 4-? I started webkinz when I was 6. And I couldn't even subtract at that age. All I thought of webkinz was animals that were pixels and stuffing. It was pretty good entertainment.

Yeah. For little kids and older people and everybody in the middle (what a long list! LOL) those can be tricky. All I know is if I didn't learn Order Of Ops last year I would have to ask my dad or else I couldn't do it. LOL But good luck everybody! :)

Thanks for your responses! I think that type of math requires skills that most kids are not taught until 7th grade. I'm sure there are exceptions, but there certainly are A LOT of kids on WW that are younger than that.

Yep! That's right. In my case anyway. But I think you could always google the answer. But here's a tip: PEMDAS. (Perenthesis, Exponents, Multiplication, Division, Addition, Subtraction.) That is the order you go in when you do those problems. and say if there's addition and subtraction or multiplication and division next to eachother you go left to right. :) Hope this helps. :)

Well, I can do it, but I'm... not the best at math, but I'm good for my grade level. :D

I think they do it so that... like... age restrictions or something like that? Like, making sure it's not some toddler randomly clicking on stuff? :D And I think you have to be a certain age to have an e-mail address, too (*you point at me* oh, be quiet. :D ).

So yeah. Also, I think it's almost kind of like the captcha code things? (like when they have ABC123 with the little lines going through them and they ask you to type it)

*shrugs* it's either:

1: to make sure you're "of the age" to be searching for them
2: to make sure you're not a computer
3: for no good reason

And also, WI usually posts the answers to the questions, too, and smaller kids can have their parents supervising them at the computer to help them with the problem, or they can ask their wonderful older sisters who are great at math. :D

Spoiler: show
3. ^-^

EDIT: and also, I found a tree and took a screenshot of the form thingamajig. :D I do believe it has something to do with the text in the red box (that I doodled on there. I also covered up the captcha code; don't worry, the real ones aren't that hard to read :D ).

Oh, you have a great point B1uski. You have to have an e-mail address to do those contests, and that requires a certain age.

I think that one Employment Office job where you sort the boxes requires math... not the delivery one, though, the other hard job that even I can't do. :D (but I may attempt it again today, haven't tried it in a while)

Re: WW Math Problems

Well, when Webkinz first started there weren't any math games/contests, except for some super easy questions at Quizzy's. But, Webkinz was originally supposed to be an educational site for kids, and incorporating math is a way to teach kids while they're having fun.

That aside, though, Webkinz has expanded to all age ranges, so Ganz has to accommodate the diversity. That's why there's different levels at the Employment Agency, for example. Personally, all the math I have found on the sight seems very simple to me, but I do understand some of the younger players might struggle with it. But how boring would it be if older teens or adults were sitting there doing simple addition? We need some variety.

I think it's good if you have to think a little bit to earn your prize, rather than mindless clicking. It makes the prize more special. And if someone really doesn't know how to do the math, they can always ask for help. :)

You all have great points! I didn't realize that you had to be 18 to enter the contest. Thanks for that screenshot B1uski.
