Webkinz Introduces New Free Account Promotion

Webkinz has recently updated their Free Account program for new webkinz users. Previously, any user who opened a new free account could adopt the Webkinz Mutt or Domestic Cat. With this new update any user who opens a brand new Webkinz account will be able to select one of nine eStore pets to adopt. The nine eStore pets include: The Pink Zebra, Ice Fawn, Leonberger, Afghan Hound, Floppy Eared Bunny, Marshmallow Chipmunk, Sun Fox, Wolf, and Cotton Top Tamarin.

Members may be interested to know that previously Pink Zebra has only been availble through an eStore promotion. Furthermore, the Ice Fawn is a seasonal winter pet and only available once a year (providing it is released by the eStore).  The Leonberger, Afghan Hound, Floppy Eared Bunny, Marshmallow Chipmunk, Sun Fox, Wolf, and Cotton Top Tamerin are all virtual pets and available to purchase by members exclusively through the eStore (note that some may not be currently available as the pet selection rotates through the year).

New users who create Free Accounts are limited in their participation throughout Webkinz World. These accounts are unable to access Kinzpost, the trading room, the items they can purchase, how many rooms they can create, and more.  Members can remove these limitations through the purchase and adoption of any other Webkinz pet, or the purchase of a deluxe membership through the eStore.

Re: Webkinz Introduces New Free Account Promotion

awesome ..........

Re: Webkinz Introduces New Free Account Promotion

This is so neat!
A few questions (not sure if they can be answered yet )
So, these pets come with their origional PSIs? And can you still adopt the dog or cat?

Re: Webkinz Introduces New Free Account Promotion

Yes, these pets come with their original psi's and no you cannot adopt the dog or cat anymore

Re: Webkinz Introduces New Free Account Promotion

This is a brilliant idea!

Re: Webkinz Introduces New Free Account Promotion

I like the idea of new members getting special pets, but to be honest I'm a little disappointed by this. I've been a loyal customer of webkinz for years, and bought their plushies/codes, but now it looks like I'm going to have to pay full price for a pet I really want (for example the ice fawn) when brand new kids will get one absolutely free. And I feel bad for the people who've already bought these special estore pets. I understand ganz wanting to attract new people with fun, free pets, and I'm all for it, but perhaps they could have used some less valuable ones (I don't know for sure, but that zebra must have cost a good deal, and anyone who purchased a code after the promotion was over likely spent top dollar on ebay etc.).
What's the point of collecting something if they might just give it away free tomorrow?
I don't mean to sound callous, I honestly hope I don't offend anyone. I would be delighted to see this draw in new webkinz players, I just think ganz could have done something a bit different, like creating a totally new pet or two just for this purpose, or giving free members some special new items/less restrictions for free accounts, or something.
Thanks so much for the news and hope everyone's having a good night!

Re: Webkinz Introduces New Free Account Promotion

Thanks for the info!

Re: Webkinz Introduces New Free Account Promotion

I also think Ganz could have used pets that were a little less valuable. I know they give away pets on the road trip, and I think perhaps those pets could have been used. I know people who have spent a lot of many getting some of these rare pets, and now they are free. I think a better idea would have been to take away some of the restrictions of free accounts because there are so many. However, I know a new player would be delighted to get such a cool pet.

Re: Webkinz Introduces New Free Account Promotion

If you open a free account and then adopt a pet to become a regular member, I wonder if you get to keep the free pet. If so, anyone starting an account would be better off starting a free account first, then converting.

I agree. They just lowered the value of these pets

I agree with you 100% I had not even adopted my pink zebra yet. I had all those pets except 2, I got none of them even on sale. I think they could have used non estore and non promo pets, so all the true collectors didnt have to feel so foolish for spending our money. Sorry, but that is my opinion about this.

Re: Webkinz Introduces New Free Account Promotion

Thank you for this information, These are great pets & have awesome PSI's

Re: Webkinz Introduces New Free Account Promotion

YAY!!

Re: Webkinz Introduces New Free Account Promotion

We felt this way about all the charm prizes they gave away, too, and the trading card prizes.

We spent years collecting card and charms, running all over the place on every vacation or visit. The charms were $5.99 each in stores and had the cool item - some were hard to find but you could build a whole room around the item you'd get. The cards weren't cheap. You hoped you might win a free pet card and collect all the furniture in the series, which was special to own. I remember how excited we were and how many boxes of cards it took to win a Dr. Quack bed. It was a treasure.

Then they just gave away most of the charm prizes and most of the card series clothes and furniture. So, same thought - all that money, time and dedication being a "collector" - who helped build Webkinz. That was not the way to thank them.

I always wondered why Webkinz doesn't take their own items from their early years that we'd like to have and give those away. This didn't cost anyone real, actual cash. There are enough items in Webkinz's inventory that they can give us older stuff, retired things, recolor existing items just to give us a different choice. I realize many save these items due to them being worth a fortune in KC. However, this is not real money, and this price is set by those who decide this is what they are worth. Meanwhile, Webkinz says they frown upon those that sell items online, yet they create this by keeping their own items impossible to have. All they have to do is distribute them so everyone can have them. They have no problem doing this with items we have paid for so why dont they do it with their items they they know not many have and they have created a mythological shortage of?

I don't at all see the point of giving away things we spent actual money for. Pets and pet items cost money; 1st-2nd-3rd year wall paper did not. Retired theme items do not cost $, past prizes don't. Taking an existing items and changing the colors does not. Giving people virtual charms does not, instead of taking away the charms. They have all that stuff programmed into their system already and yet they're marketing, selling, eStore-ing, putting ads in our faces, podcasting and ramping up every way you can to make us buy buy buy to get more out of playing. When you do, they turn around and give away what you just bought.

Seems rather ridiculous when they have a whole treasure trove of items we'd all love to have and most don't have.

Exactly. Along the lines of what you were saying, about being able to recolor items, if they had wanted some cool pets for new players, why not take the exact same pets and just recolor them and their PSI's slightly? Then the original pet and it's PSI would retain it's rarity and trading value respectively, while new players would get neat pets. It wouldn't have to be drastic either, just enough to distinguish the original from the free; similar to how the lil'kinz horse is common and cheap while the much rarer full size horse is dearly cherished by collectors.

Re: Webkinz Introduces New Free Account Promotion

This is a great idea, but I kind of feel like Ganz is trying to find another way to keep members instead of shoving deluxe in our faces. Sorry to be mean I just think it's another item they are adding to the list of ways to keep members.

I understand how members who have been here a long time (me one of them) are upset about this but I feel at this point we can't really predict Ganz doing stuff like this. I wouldn't have avoided buying a certain estore pet in case Ganz ever decides to make it a free pet. I wouldn't count on it.

That's the whole idea, I think. They're giving you incentive to start a new account, then to make it a regular account, you still need to buy a pet. And yes, you do keep the free pet.

Re: Webkinz Introduces New Free Account Promotion

So wrong. I've wanted an ice fawn for a while, but now I'm not willing to pay to get one when I could just open another account strictly for one.
