Webkinz Announces World Wide Day of Play *UPDATE*

Today members playing in Webkinz World noticed advertisements alerting us to a countdown to World Wide Day of Play.

On Saturday, September 24th, 2011 from 12pm to 3pm (EST) Webkinz World will be unavailable so that players will be encouraged to take a break to go outside and play.  Being active and living a healthy lifestyle has been a recent theme on Webkinz Newz as well as in Webkinz World.

Thanks to Webkinz Insider member Vickie for bringing us the image of the advertisement from her account.  How are you going to use your World Wide Day of Play time?  Will you be active outside?

*UPDATE* Webkinz Newz has announced that  you will receive a virtual prize when you log back into your Webkinz World account after 3pm on Saturday September 24!

Re: Webkinz Announces World Wide Day of Play

Thanks for the info! Sounds like a good time for me to get into the garden, maybe plant some spring bulbs!

Re: Webkinz Announces World Wide Day of Play

What a great idea! Now kids can go outside and play without worrying about missing dalies or rare items. I like this!

Re: Webkinz Announces World Wide Day of Play

Great idea. Good thing I am going to the lake this weekend, where there is no internet service; otherwise I might have gone into super withdrawal symptoms. If I'm home; I have to be on WW at some point in the day!! Hey, in my defence, it's the only place I get to move furniture around, as hubby is one of those "why would you move that it was perfectly fine where it was" kind of people. Well here's to everyone "have an awesome WW free day" - wow, that doesn't sound right at all

Re: Webkinz Announces World Wide Day of Play

I don't know about the rest of you, but my kids are in school during those hours..why wouldn't they shut the site down while the kids would be home? This won't affect my kids at all..now, me on the otherhand..well, I'll go take a nap LOL

Re: Webkinz Announces World Wide Day of Play

Yay! I'm so happy, my mom will be happy about this too. But it won't keep me from being on other websites. o.O

It's a Saturday. Just FYI.

Re: Webkinz Announces World Wide Day of Play

Won't affect me at all. I'll just hang out on webkinz insider.

Re: Webkinz Announces World Wide Day of Play

I hope I have to work then LOL

Re: Webkinz Announces World Wide Day of Play

Oh ok, so as an adult that uses Webkinz, I guess I'll go take my super soaker and play with the neighbor kids? Yeah I'm thinking probably not. :/

Thank God I am gone all day Saturdays.

Re: Webkinz Announces World Wide Day of Play

I would like to say on record that I am not impressed with this move by Ganz. I am a parent and I am in full control of how long my kids spend on the computer and when those times are. I don't need Ganz' "help" in this matter. I am pretty sure they are shutting down for three hours either for some kind of maintenance or even just to save a boatload of money by having all their servers off for that length of time. This is of course fine and their prerogative, but for goodness sake say so and spare us the preaching.

Webkinz World is a pay-to-play amusement site. They are not an "educational" site; they exist for fun and play, period. For a group of people who can't spell "lightning" correctly, who don't know that "dice" is plural, who think it's ok to teach children that you don't have to answer every letter you receive, for these people to now preach to us about the value of not being on the computer on a Saturday afternoon is more than a little insulting. I say to Ganz: fix your own house before you worry about the "needs" of MY house. Leave your site up and let ME decide - as a responsible parent - when my children should walk away from the computer. And what about the kids who can't "go out and play"? What are they supposed to do?

There are many, many other ways Ganz can make their site into a better learning tool if they really wanted to (which they so obviously do not wish to do), but they are still first and foremost a gaming site that we pay to use. That's all they are. "Shutting down so the kids can go outside"? Nonsense and really not their call to make.

OK, stepping off of my soapbox now. Sorry for the rant but they just make me so angry sometimes.

Re: Webkinz Announces World Wide Day of Play

Hmm, only 3 hours? I guess this will at least get the kiddos outside for a little while.

I completely agree! All parents should be the judge of how long their kids play on the computer.

Re: Webkinz Announces World Wide Day of Play

Just a thought...

But we PAY for this! We bought the pets, we buy the codes, we pay for deluxe and they tell US they are shutting down the site for 3 hours for the kids to go to play?! I don't think they should have that right honestly, since WE PAY for all of this.

Hear, hear!

Re: Webkinz Announces World Wide Day of Play

I had plans to be outside during that time anyway. Dad and I were going to go apple picking if the apples I like are ripe.

Re: Webkinz Announces World Wide Day of Play

MAKE SURE YOU LOG IN ON SATURDAY----THERE MIGHT BE A SURPRISE(if you like food)

Re: Webkinz Announces World Wide Day of Play

Aw no! Sigh. I guess I could go outside if i'm in the mood. Otherwise I guess i'll go here on Webkinz Insider and read posts and on my other site I like moshi monsters.

Re: Webkinz Announces World Wide Day of Play

It's not like WW is the only reason kids aren't going out to play.

The kids that really don't spend enough time outside will most likely not be going outside during those 3 hours either.
